Bad Bertrich – in a side valley of the Moselle – that was the slogan with which our town presented itself to potential guests for many years. Although this is not entirely true, it shows the proximity and connection with the people and structures there. Alf, for example, is only 9 kilometres away, just follow the course of the Üßbach to the east! You can reach the Calmont via ferrata near Bremm, in the steepest vineyard in Europe, in about 10 minutes! Geologically, however, we are part of the Volcanic Eifel and are naturally part of the GesundLand Vulkaneifel thanks to our 32° warm thermal spring. The health-orientated offer in the village, Bad Bertrich is home to 4 clinics, has always existed. Even the Romans appreciated the healing power of the Glauber’s salt thermal spring and settled here. Evidence of the almost 2000 year old Roman baths can still be found today among the spa facilities. The thermal mineral healing water is used internally and externally to treat numerous ailments.
Our tip: why not try a sip of Berquell healing water!
The 32°C naturally warm Glauber’s salt thermal spring rises under the drinking fountain hall as a mountain spring that was already tapped by the Romans. The certified healing water is used for medical and wellness treatments with drinking and bathing applications. The spring water is freely accessible to visitors at two drinking fountains.
Detailed information about our healing water can be found at here.
The Electoral Palace is located in the centre of the spa gardens. Once used by Clemens Wenzeslaus, Elector of Trier, as a hunting lodge and summer residence, it now hosts events and wedding ceremonies. Together with the large Kursaal, the Concert Hall, the Elector’s Hall and the Karlsbad Hall, the Kulturraum Bad Bertrich offers a unique ambience that tastefully combines history and modernity.
The Vulkaneifel Therme with a water surface area of approx. 600 square metres is fed 100 % by the only Glauber salt thermal spa in Germany. Spread over two floors, the spa offers plenty of space for soothing relaxation and extensive bathing pleasure in the healing thermal water with a variety of indoor and outdoor water areas, a relaxation gallery and catering facilities. The spacious sauna area with outdoor area takes you on the trail of volcanism with a volcanic sauna, lava light sauna, volcanic forge, shearer’s sauna or in the Rasul steam bath.

Small but nice is the motto here. Although the town only has a few hundred inhabitants, there is a wide range of gastronomic offerings. The choice ranges from home-style cooking, pizza and pasta to health-conscious and regional specialities. Table reservations are recommended, especially during the season and around public holidays. Opening hours vary.
A selection of cafés all the way down to the Schwanenweiher pond, where you can enjoy the famous Schwanenwindbeutel, will sweeten your holiday.
The evening ends in the bars Hoschis Tijuana and the Moselstube.

Every year, readers of the Wandermagazins vote for the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany in various categories. In 2023, our HeimatSpur Wasserfall-Erlebnisroute im GesundLand Vulkaneifel was awarded 1st place as Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail in the day tour category! Isn’t that great?
The HeimatSpur waterfall adventure route is a 13-kilometre hike that starts and ends in Bad Bertrich. It first leads up the rocky slopes surrounding the spa town and deeper and deeper into the Erdenbach valley until it reaches the Klidinger waterfall – the highest waterfall in the Eifel at 28 metres. But the waterfall is not the only highlight along the route. Along the way, in addition to a natural refrigerator at the Maischquelle spring and fantastic views at the Falkenlay, the Hohenzollernturm and the Oase der Ruhe, there are also geological features such as the Stone Age caves and the sediment wall at Kennfus.
We think: The waterfall adventure route is a great hiking trail that connects many of the sights around Bad Bertrich on narrow paths and wide trails. Sure-footedness is essential for the passage by the waterfall.
Have fun hiking!
A small barefoot path gets the soles of your feet moving in the exercise garden of the Landscape Therapy Park.
The beach volleyball court is part of the sports centre in Kennfus and is free to use.
Guests are welcome to play.
There is a boules court on the old post office square in Bad Bertrich where the boules club competes against each other every Wednesday.
Geocaching is great fun for young and old! There are several easy and more difficult caches in the immediate vicinity.
For guided tours, we recommend Kristin and Norbert from explore-eifel.
