The Christmas Garden is a glowing oasis in the open air that invites you to slow down and enjoy the cosy atmosphere. The most popular light spectacle in Rhineland-Palatinate!

This winter, the imposing Ehrenbreitstein Fortress will once again be transformed into a sparkling fairytale landscape along a circular route of around two kilometres. New, unique light designs and dreamlike soundscapes have been specially created for the Christmas Garden 2023 and can only be experienced here. The Christmas Garden Koblenz will also delight visitors from previous years with over 30 new attractions. Exclusively at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress: Madonna exhibition with 300 unique exhibits from the last 400 years.

More than 40 festively decorated Christmas stalls are dotted around the medieval old town of Bernkastel. From traditional arts and crafts to jewellery and candles to nostalgic bric-a-brac, everything is on offer. The gastronomic offerings also leave nothing to be desired: whether tarte flambée, stews, waffles, crêpes or mulled wine.

Icy waters with a chocolatey reward!
The torchlight swim through the icy Moselle has been a highlight for years. Over 100 divers accompany St Nicholas on his way from Kues harbour to the banks of the Moselle in Bernkastel. After arriving safely on the banks of the Moselle, St Nicholas hands out presents to the young visitors.

International and national artisans and exhibitors will be presenting high-quality decorative items, gift ideas, culinary specialities, wine and wellness products, antiques and creative fashion and jewellery design in a Christmas atmosphere in various cellars from 24 November 2023 to 1 January 2024 at weekends and on special opening days.

This underground Christmas market, the only one of its kind to date, is all about wine, indulgence and culture and not only invites visitors to linger in a cosy atmosphere and enjoy Christmas fun underground. The varied supporting programme with cultural, traditional and musical highlights and the events around the ice skating rink also put guests in the Christmas spirit outside the Traben-Trarbach underground world.

The Wittlich Christmas Days begin on Friday 24 November. The stalls are open from Monday to Thursday from 11.00 am to 7.30 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11.00 am to 8.30 pm and on Sunday from 1.00 pm to 7.30 pm. Please note that the market stalls will be closed on the Sunday of the Dead, 26 November 2023. Far away from the hustle and bustle, the small but exquisite Wittlich Christmas Days offer visitors mulled wine, mulled cider, sweet and savoury treats in addition to a Christmas-inspired supporting programme. On the third weekend in Advent, the former Himmerod Monastery invites you to a very special Christmas market:

The historical ambience of the monastery makes the anticipation of Christmas particularly sensual. With high-quality arts and crafts and delicacies from the region, the medieval cloister, the refectory and the palatorium are transformed into a setting straight out of a Christmas storybook.

Inside the monastery, Advent is celebrated the way Christmas romantics of all ages dream of. Small and large gifts for loved ones are available at the stalls of blacksmiths and weavers, woodcarvers and stonemasons, florists and nativity scene makers. “We were able to attract wonderful artisans from the region, all of whom offer high-quality products, from Christmas decorations to home accessories or fashion for all seasons,” says co-organiser Michael Moll from Manderscheid. The fresh, authentic delicacies for the palate also set the mood for the festive season. Hearty dishes from the wood-fired oven, vegetarian specialities, stews or fragrant baked apples – indulgence is the name of the game. There is mulled wine, of course, but also hot mead from our own apiary or children’s punch: everything that warms and cosies you up in winter.
The festive illumination of the rooms and the inner courtyard create a heart-warming Christmas atmosphere that nobody can resist. This is certainly a visual highlight.
