Christmas spirit in the romantic setting of the medieval main market square and in front of the imposing cathedral.

From November 21 to December 22, 2024, the 45th Trier Christmas Market will transform the picturesque old town into a sparkling Christmas wonderland that captivates visitors from all over the world. Voted “Best Christmas Market in Germany 2024” by the tourism platform “EuropeanBestDestinations,” the Trier Christmas Market also ranked 11th in a Europe-wide comparison. The travel portal also described the Trier Christmas Market as the “most romantic Christmas market in the world.” These awards underscore the outstanding quality and popularity of the market.

Almost every day, there is a changing program for the whole family on the atmospheric stage in front of the west facade of the cathedral, ranging from historical puppet theater to star tenors or leading figures from the regional music scene. That’s why, in the cathedral courtyard and the medieval main market square, you’ll not only meet Santa Claus and his helpers, but also Germany’s only mulled wine queen, St. Nicholas, the angels of the Christmas bakery, and thousands of guests from Germany and abroad.

The atmospheric Christmas market in the historic old town of Bernkastel attracts visitors with attractions such as torchlight swimming and fireworks, unusual features such as the largest Advent calendar in the region, activities such as the St. Nicholas hike, and delicacies such as the unmistakable Riesling mulled wine. All this can be found at the Christmas market in Bernkastel-Kues. The festively decorated Christmas market stalls are spread throughout the medieval old town of Bernkastel. From traditional handicrafts to jewelry, candles, and nostalgic gift ideas, there is something for everyone. The gastronomic offerings also leave nothing to be desired: whether tarte flambée, stews, waffles, crêpes, or mulled wine.

Learn all about wine and winemaking on this unique city tour. As part of a guided tour offered year-round through the Traben-Trarbach underground, you will have the opportunity to visit various separate historic cellars.

At the turn of the 20th century, Traben-Trarbach was considered the second largest wine trading center in Europe after Bordeaux in France. In the second half of the 19th century, the capacity of the Traben-Trarbach wine cellars was expanded like no other Moselle community, and large parts of the town center were built over with cellars. Today, the Traben-Trarbach underground world, with over 30 cellars, invites you on an exciting journey of discovery through the history of historic viticulture and old cellar technology, as well as wine tastings and culinary delights within historic walls.

During Advent, Cochem shows itself from its most atmospheric side. The Christmas market awaits visitors with festively decorated wooden huts, regional delicacies, and handicrafts. Music, lights, and a special program of events ensure unforgettable moments.

The Reichsburg Cochem also serves as an atmospheric backdrop for a unique Christmas experience. During the lantern tours, you accompany the “Cochem Castle Guard” on his way through the interior of the castle. By the light of his lantern, you listen to Advent and Christmas customs from different eras and cultures. Or experience the magic of Advent – Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” as a station theater presented by the castle staff and the Kaisersesch Theater Association.

The popular castle Christmas market with its live nativity scene also invites visitors to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere. Historic backdrops, atmospheric lighting, and lovingly staged scenes make a visit to Cochem Imperial Castle a special experience.

On the first weekend of Advent, the historic castle gate of Niederburg Manderscheid opens for the Castle Christmas Market.
Enjoy the unique backdrop and atmosphere of this one-of-a-kind Christmas market. Against the backdrop of the medieval fortifications, enchanting little stalls await your discovery. Candles, floristry, jewelry, honey products – here, everyone will find a beautiful gift to delight their loved ones at Christmas. There is also plenty to eat and drink. All kinds of delicacies such as mulled wine, hot grape juice, waffles, and roasted almonds will pamper your body and soul.

Look forward to a real live nativity scene. Mary and Joseph enjoy the colorful life of the Christmas market together with their animals by the warm fire. Achim and his Christmas friends get you in the mood for Advent with Christmas carols on both days. Experience an incomparable moment in the historic setting of the illuminated castle.
